Although still a young company (established on 1st January 2000), S&C is built on very firm foundations.
It was back in 1952 that the directors of Assurance Liégeoise (founded in 1895) realised that a large number of people were experiencing difficulties in the face of financial obligations relating to a death. As a result, the “Vie Populaire” department came into being, designed to deal with the needs of this specialised group of customers.
With its well-established tradition of dependability and honesty, combined with matchless skills and experience, Assurance Liégeoise developed quickly as an insurance company. In 1982, AL became part of the “Royale Belge” group.
The success of the products offered by “Vie Populaire” on a national scale through its network of specialised agents of course made a significant contribution to this development.
The “Vie Populaire” network changed its name in 1985, becoming “La Porte des Lilas”. The name may have changed, but the philosophy remained the same!
In 1994, the network entered a new phase and joined another insurance company – UAB – a subsidiary of Royale Belge:
1999 saw the merger between Royale Belge and AXA
S&C was created on 1st January 2000 with the aim of expanding the business of the “Porte des Lilas” network, which has since been shortened to “Lilas”, with new products and services (“Avenia”).
S&C was established for the purpose of meeting a range of demands from the market as a whole.
